Let Demjanjuk Stay!

As most of you know, there is a major issue regarding citizenship and deportation in Ohio. The country of Germany believes that Ohio resident John Demajanjuk is a former Nazi camp guard. Due to this, they are attempting to get him extradited from his comfy, warm home in Ohio (though it might not be so warm right now) and sent to a cold, grungy prison in Germany. Demajanjuk, of course, is fighting this plan.



This is not the first time that Demajanjuk got nailed for stuff like this. In the 90s, his US citizenship was revoked as Israel believed that he was the camp guard named 'Ivan the Terrible'. After being convicted by on court, he appealed the ruling. Upon appeal, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that he was not Ivan, and he was sent back home. His US citizenship was restored.

While that should have stopped Demajanjuk's troubles, more kept happening. Recently, Germany decided that he was a different guard, and are now seeking to get him back. In response, US courts again revoked his citizenship, and they have ordered him deported back to Germany to stand trail. This most recent incident is what Demajanjuk is fighting.

To me, this seems like a witch hunt, as he has already been confused with another guard. This dude is from Germany, that is about all he has that the Germans are using against him. The bloody supreme court of Israel found for this dude, so I am quite sure that he is not a prison guard. Guys, drop it and find an actual Nazi.

Anyways, I believe that enough is enough, and tha we should let Demajanjuk serve out the rest of his life in peace and rest. The guy is in his 80s, has thousands of things wrong with his body, and has reformed his life. He has found God, has a family, and worked for years on the line. Seriously, even if this guy was a holocaust guard, the time has past, let's let him get on with his life.

To me, I believe that all of these hunts for former Nazi's should end. Most of the people are dead, and those that are not have found a new life. Most of them have to live with what they did, and I am betting that most are repentant. Seriously, these people have families, are injured, and have helped to build this country after the war. Why should we seek to punish them, when they have to live with themselves every day?

Give PEAS a chance

I know, I know, I really do not like PETA. In fact, I usually can find nothing that they do right. But, for once, I have to give them some commendations. See, they are trying this new campaign that is going to attempt to get some peace in the Middle East by giving people peas. Sure, It is unlikely to work, but we must assume that they are trying this to be good people.



Anyways, PETA is running the "Give Peas a Chance" campaign with the intent on putting posters on both sides of the fence in Israel promoting vegetarianism. They are contending that terror and violence starts by eating meat (not sure if this is due to the murder of the animals or due to some sort of mental instability caused by meat) and so having people be vegies will cause less violence. This is an interesting idea, but I am not so sure how it would work.

I mean, how likely is it that being a vegie will decrease violence. Manson was a vegie, as was Hitler, and several other killers. Wait, that is a strawman, but who cares. Anyways, there is no evidence that shows that eating less meat causes less violence. No, I think this is more a marketing ploy by PETA to get people to think that they are all for peace. And, frankly, I buy it. I really think that PETA is attempting to interject humor in the situation which will hopefully help ease the tensions. If this works, I will like PETA slightly more. If it doesn't, I will be happy that they attempted to help.


Just so you don't think that I am starting to like PETA, I have to point out something they did wrong. See that picture up there, well it is wrong. PETA thinks that people shouldn't have pets as pets, but that dog and that cat clearly look like pets. PETA needs to get a new artist..

Dear Statehouse Protestors:

On Friday a group marched around the Statehouse in downtown Columbus several times as part of the ‘End the Occupation’(http://www.endtheoccupation.org/article.php?id=1773) group. They were protesting the bombings of Gaza by Israel(http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/ML_ISRAEL_PALESTINIANS?SITE=OHCOL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT). Basically, they were walking around the building, waving flags, chanting, and being escorted by some of Columbus’ finest mounted officers. Trust me, the horses were the most entertaining part.

So, anyways, there is a group of disgruntled Muslims marching around our statehouse simply to protest the actions that another country is committing against their people. Does that make any sense to you? I mean, why would Columbus, or Toledo, or Cinci, or even Akron (they have protested at all) have to do with Israel bombing the West Bank? Sure, it is all nice to have a obvious statement against something, but when we can not do anything, I see it as more of a waste of time. What can Columbus do to help the Palestinians out?

I mean, when was the last time that you saw people marching around our statehouse wanting the US to get involved in Darfur? Nope, they are all doing it online, where there is a larger impact, and where you can get more people. Marching in locations which have no say in the matter is useless. Go march in Washington (where the US does have some policy say on Israel). Or go march around the Israeli Embassy (where it will be heard). Go march somewhere where it actually matters, and where you are not wasting our state’s resources. Better yet, go march in Israel as a protest.

Actually, on a side note, don’t march in Israel; odds are that they will kill you and your family.
