Where Are The Fans?

Before I start, I can not help but advertise myself... I have been on the Chicago Sun-Times twice now, most notably here. The Sun-Times is like the 7th most popular newspaper in the country, so I am rocking. As for the rest of my sports coverage, see it here.

This might be short, but it is more or less a rant that has been bugging me for some time.

On Saturday night the Columbus Blue Jackets finished off a record season for the club. With new records on wins, away wins, home wins, goals, points, and a whole slew of other things, they are poised to bring a new era into Columbus. Additionally, this is the first time that they have ever reached the Stanley Cup, and it means that we can finally stop being made fun of. Even with this record season, however, not enough people seem to be paying attention to the team.

To me, this seems like a giant mistake on the citizens part. Sure, we might be a football town, but we have a soccer team (The Crew) who won the bloody MLS cup last year. On top of that, we have the Jackets who are doing amazing. This is a great time to let the rest of the country know that we are not just about football. Seriously folks, why does nobody come out to support these teams?

And, on a side note, we have four potential non-championship trophies... The best Goalie, The Best Rookie, The Best Player (all three Mason), and the best coach

Hockey is way too expensive for the average person / family to attend in any economic times. It is the most expensive sport to see in person...due to such low TV revenues they have to charge so much, which then keeps a lot of people away.

I myself have never been to a Jackets game. i am not paying $85 to get a good seat

25$ to see the game from great seats is all you need, or $56 and you can see it from the front row. That is much better than 125$ per football game
