A Brief View of Palin

Post 49

Please note that I am not racist, it only sounds like I am in this entry because YOU want to see the bad in me.

As you may have noticed, two things have changed on my site within the last week: I have added a Blog Critics Link on the right side part of the page and I have altered the top left to remove the McCain sign and post a giant question mark. That is right, I no longer know whom I will be voting for. Prior to Friday I was happily planning on voting for yet another white man; however, McCain decided to change the game, making me choose between a black/white man combo and a white man/woman combo. Frankly, I didn't like my new choices.

So, I am now forced to analyze these tickets all over again. With only 9 weeks remaining it is not that long of a period to try and decide for whom I will be voting for in November. McCain had been leading Obama by about 5 points or so prior to this (by my count) but suddenly the dynamics were changed. They had an equal amount of experience on the tickets, equal amount of stupid mistakes, and an equal amount of white men

There are several problems that are inherent with Palin. I will be listing them here, along with how they impact my decision.

  1. Mine Safety and Mine Pollution Control - Palin voted against this, which makes me not like her at all -1

  2. Does not believe in global warming - As we all know, I am a huge environmentalist; the fact that she will not accept scientific evidence harms her -1

  3. Against Sex Ed - studies have shown that sex ed works well whereas abstinence only is ineffective. -1

  4. Believes that Creationism should be taught in school - As a scientist I have a distinct issue with this -1

  5. Opposes Gay Rights - as a person who thinks this should be a state-by-state issue and thus agree with this +1

  6. Opposed to universal health care - Again, I think this should be state-by-state +1

  7. Opposed to stem-cell research - Even Nancy Regan supports this, seriously, WTF -1

  8. No Experience - Wow some people think this is a huge deal, as a VEEP it is very little +0

  9. Does not know what a VEEP does - Until Cheeny the answer was nothing +0

  10. She supported the 'bridge to nowhere' pork barrel - Come on, the small spending party supports this pork barrel shit -1

  11. Pro-Life no matter what - should be state-by-state, not national -1

  12. Alaska First - I can not support a VEEP who is dedicated to only one state -1

  13. Alaska Separate - I can not support anybody who believes in succeeding from the union -1

  14. Flip Flopped on Obama's Energy Plan - Seriously, even your Presidential candidate is fine admitting the other dudes strength -1

  15. Favors censoring library books - Um, can we say governmental intrusion -1

  16. Supports Aerial Hunting - Regardless of the animal, this is outrages and not sporting -1

  17. Against Birth Control - See the sex ed part -1

  18. Against anything on the Endangered Species List - supporting the removal of things so that they can be hunted is horrific and does not help ecosystems -1

  19. Pro ANWAR drilling - see the entries on the ES list, GW, and the environment -1

In the end Palin comes out with an amazing -13 in points. Wow, I can not even support her to be my schools teacher (non-scientific class of course), let alone the VEEP of the USA. That said, she does not tank McCain's campaign, as there are many other things I support him on over Obama; however, she does make him look badly in my eyes. The candidates have 9 weeks to keep trying to win me over, Good Luck.

As always, please leave any comments, no matter how large or how small about the contents of this blog post. Also, please leave any comments/suggestions about this site/post as a whole.

well, congratulations on that article (on your facebook ticker) is that site a signup & publish or one that you have to submit articles to?
I have some issues with some of your things here, but have to go to dinner first before I do an In-depth reply. Do have some questions, what are some stances that could make you support her/ the ticket more?
-Peter

Also, you're probably the only person who dropped support for McCain b/c of that announcement.

There's something not right about the idea of Bristol Palin as reasonable fair game. How Sarah got the job OTOH ...

Barga, that Alaska first/independent information is based on bad information http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/members-of-frin.html
And on that Pro life no matter what - John McCain has stated that he believes Roe should be overturned. Plus, I'd say she is better than you might thing on some of the issues. when Alaska passed a anti-gay marriage law, she vetoed it as being against the Alaskan Constitution. Alaska actually recognizes same-sex benefits for gov employees.

And david, she doesn't need any photoshop to be sexy http://www.sitemason.com/newspub/fQKJvW?id=58891

Barga, I was also wondering where you got some of your information?

Oh yeah, she's certainly naturally cute :-) It was in reference to the article being based on the famous "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!" video.

Hey Barga, could one of your future Posts be your whole Point rubric for the election?

"Favors censoring library books - Um, can we say governmental intrusion -1"

That is false. See "Sarah Palin, VP Nominee," by Jessamyn West, Librarian.net, 2 September 2008, and all the many comments thereunder.

Peter part one -

Thanks for finally commenting on my site, back from vacation? That said, the other site is a signup be admitted and then they edit and all of that. It also does reviews, which i will be doing soon

Very little could make me support her. Unless she does a complete 180 i can not find her useful

Most of my moderate contacts agree that it pushed them towards Obama

---------------
Peter post 2

Alaska First - My appologies, i had not seen the redaction of the story. So she is only -12!

Roe V. Wade - McCain has said it should be state by state which i agree with, she wants to ban it outright

Anti-gay - After the court told her she would be required to put it in

peter post 3 -

forgot this in the last one. What do you mean by your request?

Barga said...

David -

Bristol is not really fair game but the fact that she is pregie means that hopefully Palin will flip on abstinence only education

Library lady -

Which comment in particular are you referring to (your site showed me that it was true)

Barga, by only giving back one point, (but still saying she is Alaska first) is that b/c she is a State governor? Where it's her job to care about her state first? and how is that any different from being a senator elected from a STATE .
in my third post, I was asking if you had a formal list of all the Pros and Cons for voting for each ticket, because you mentioned that McCain had been 5 ahead before the pick.
I think Library Lady was referring to some of the later comments, where people found interviews with the librarian that this had only been a formal discussion with the librarian, not a request to ban certain books

Here's some info on how she did on social issues while governor, including the creation thing.

I honestly think you need to wait a week to let the rumors fade out.

Pete - it becomes a non-issue. I like McCain and Obama because they are both all about the better of the country, not the better of a state. While govenor she campaigned to get more funding specifically on wasteful projects in her state

Peter, everything i used i based off of things that she is listed as saying and wuopted as saying. I did not use a single actual blog for this research.

The polarized left would not support her even if she was Mother Theresa. What still baffles me is that Obama had a chance to double down, put his ego aside, and select Hillary Clinton as his VP. That would have locked up the woman and made 2 historical firsts which the media seems to be so enamored with witnessing. But no. The thought of sharing power with the Clintons was too much for him. For Barack its me, myself and I. I will vote Republican simply because I don't trust Obama to be concerned about much more than HIS OWN political influence.

I agree that he should have picked Clinton. Had he, he would have been gaurenteed this election. The thing is, I do not think he is control, and the party does not seem to like her

Find me a politician who isn't (besides Lieberman)

Actually found an article today that shows she is actually more liberal than the republican party line on Sex-ed and birth control (though that meants they should probally be marked as negatives for McCain )

I'd say watch this page or others like it (there's a second one on Pajamas Media) as now people are starting to finally calm down and figure out what is actually true or not. I'd recommend the Pajamas Media one as it also has some more info on some of the stuff not covered in the fact check article. Ex: that 'hunting from the air' is culling from the air to preserve game herd numbers.
