This is going to be a very quick entry today.
As you might know, I love watching the Olympics. Like, I will go out of my way to watch the games wherever I am and root for the American team no matter what. I think that the Olympics are one of the greatest things to happen to the world as it helps to keep the peace (at least during the time (yeah, yeah, I know, Russia and Georgia just played some game against each other)) and helps promote an international community. The games help stimulate an economy, they help show the world how much a certain country has advanced (look at Beijing this year or Berlin in 36), and the help to ensure athletes from other cultures see each other. These games are so important that they should be above politics, but, sadly, they are not.
From the Munich games to the protests that marred the torch relay this year, the Olympics are often the heart of protests and political statements. I mean, it does seem to make some sense; after all, there is a world-wide and MASSIVE audience. However, why should we destroy the meaning of these games for politics. Why do we not set politics aside for these 18 days and come together as a community of nations to celebrate the greatest of the great. It is high time that we support international activities like this.
As I said, this was going to be quick.
