Hello

Hello everyone. I have been invited to start contributing posts to this blog. Many thanks and much appreciated.

I am an Economics and International Affairs major long term. I will probably replace economics with ecology at some point though. I am taking time off from those studies currently to study welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, sustainable living, permaculture, and alternative energy. I am working towards starting a self sustaining farm with 5 of my close friends over the next year.

I don't adhere to any one political belief. I think we all need to choose the information that produces consistent, predictable, repeatable, fulfilling results for each of us. I think politics on the whole is a distraction from meaningful democracy. Parties are established to argue from. We all spend time arguing points that can all be proven true and false. If you wanted to classify a group of things I hold to be true in a category it would be anarcho-syndicalism, direct democracy, local control, self management, etc, etc... Please don't try and catch me on any of my statements being not in line with what those things state. There are points I disagree with as they are not in line with my personal situation but I believe anyone can take the principles established in these lines of thought and apply them to their personal wants, needs, and situation. I look forward to writing and hearing your comments.

also, how do you plan on having power and internet

Ander said...

oh here we go. Unless we support corporations and money and the government and all of the "necessary evil" that comes with it, we can't have power or internet or TV's.

We plan on producing our own power by burning vegetable oil through a diesel generator. And we will pay the internet company for internet.

Unless you plan on breaking the law you need to work within the government anyways. Pay taxes, file paper work, etc etc etc

Though of drilling your own small well?

there's a difference between working within the government and supporting and perpetuating it.

Yeah but there is more than enough rainfall in ohio to meet our needs.

Everyone breaks the law everyday. That's what it is designed for. there are over 30,000 federal laws, not including the tax code, and then there is state and local laws. What are you guilty of?

--I know this, am merely saying you still need to work within it... Will you still vote?--

"Yeah but there is more than enough rainfall in ohio to meet our needs."
--What about an early frost, a drought, etc?--

"Everyone breaks the law everyday. That's what it is designed for. there are over 30,000 federal laws, not including the tax code, and then there is state and local laws. What are you guilty of?"
--speeding, my point was that you will still need to get permits and shit like that--

absolutely not. If I am voting it means I support and accept a group of people having access to a monopoly on force. I would also be stating that I, too, am competing for that monopoly.

There will be plenty of storage. Hour homes alone will catch close to 40,000 gallons a year each. That's not counting barns, workshop, and other buildings. Each house will have a cistern and the whole place will have a huge tank. Thats not to mention all the landscaping that has been done to trap water to reduce the need to water crops. Our water consumption will be dramatically reduced by design. We will have all low flow fittings, we wont have dishwashers and washing machines, etc. grey water will reuse will be plenty for watering plants. We will have no black water. We will just compost our shit.

and the beauty of the government is that working within it means making tax burden 0 and doing what we can that doesn't require licensing. We can sell meat and produce without any license as long as we sell under a certain amount. We can have a store front and everything. but yeah those circumstances exist all over the place. Our interaction will be so minimal it will be ridiculous.

going to sell furniture too
interesting, not sure how you plan to fund it all, btu interesting

Ander said...

no we aren't selling furniture.

our parents and my grandparents are extremely interested in it and have all said not to worry about the money. Also if we grow 100 tomato plants we would make around $25,000 a year. Having a largely reduced dependency on money and money being shared, $25,000 goes a lot further. That's not including other produce, meat, and things we decide to make.
