Internets Beware; Watch What You Post

Quick entry for today, and for most of this week, as it is exam week. Additionally, next week I will be out camping with Peter O (you should recognize his comments) in the snow and freezing my ass off... I have no idea if I will get some posts done and delay-posted or not, but I will have something up on those days.

Anyways, onto the real story. I am somewhat careful of what I post online. Sure, I have some interesting ideas that I share with you all, and I have some photos of me doing questionable things (drinking and shooting) both on here and on Facebook. But, I really am quite careful when it comes to overall information. There have been times when I posted something inappropriate, or dangerous to myself, but I usually remove them, or ask that they are immediately deleted. That said, there is a problem in this country with people who don't pay attention to this issue, so, alas, I need to warn you all on some things...

Over the weekend, CNN, and more importantly Liberal Common Sense posted a nice little blurb on the fact that the chief Obama speech writer had a nice picture up on his Facebook. It was quickly removed. Anyways, the images showed him dancing with a cutout Clinton and one of him groping the same cutout while another person gives her a beer. The more damning thing, is the fact that the other person has OBAMA STAFF on his shirt. Wow, idiots...

So, here is the deal, how can people really think that this is a good idea? I mean, you have hard workers, clearly intelligent men, but all they are doing is screwing around and telling us about it. If Obama had posted this picture, there would be a huge, huge issue. Seriously, this was a big move, and the fact that Obama did not remove the offender is a clear sign of how his administration will be run. I do, however, approve of how Clinton handled the whole thing.

So, basically, I am saying that you should all be careful of what you post online. What you say today will matter tomorrow.

In case you wish to be hired by certain companies, or already are with some
also, if you are looking at politics or if your schools have certain policies in place

so I need to some how water down my ideas and dreams to fit into someone elses definition of appropriate?

No, you need to be ready to accept that your boss, your fellow workers, or your voters will not accept certain conduct, either while at the job or while searching/before it, and will punish you

exactly. coercing me into behavior i would not display voluntarily in any other circumstance. someone is deciding what that behavior is and they will punish you if you do not do it. thus, i must water down my true ideas, preferences, wants, and dreams into someone elses perception of "appropriate behavior". I don't call instigating civil unrest in foreign nations so that companies can have access to the resources for their home countries instead of for the people of that nation, "appropriate behavior".

if someone has a problem with my behavior they should tell me and I should ask them how my behavior made them feel and explain and ask what they would like me to do instead. It's not that hard.

Think of it this way, you represent a person or company that would be hiring you. Your images could harm that persons/companies reputation, could lose business, or could cost them a job. Thus, your actions have a direct impact on them and they have every right to fire/punish you for them

Ah yes private tyranny. What behavior is acceptable for the "Good of the company" don't follow their behavior guidelines and you're on the street. You still haven't addressed my point.

"MY" Images, the things that make me who I am. My preferences, wants, and needs. You're saying I need to be careful of who I am as a person. I have to alter my behavior to someone else's definition of acceptable to be hired or fired.

I have no issue with it being private tyranny. It is like a boss firing you if you said 'fuck you' to a client

you are hired with these conditions

I figure I am at the point of no return.
